EA SPORTS FC 27 Gameplay Changes: What EA Actually Changed
Dynamic corners, manual defending and a PlayStyles rebalance lead the FC 27 changes. After the closed beta EA also cut Team Press in your own third.

EA SPORTS FC 27 pushes gameplay toward manual control and raw attributes.
Confirmed changes include dynamic corners, enhanced attacking awareness, player-focused defending, more fluid player movement, a PlayStyles rebalance and off-balance dribbling, plus expanded gameplay sliders.
After the closed beta EA added another round of defending and running changes. The two with the biggest impact are that Team Press stops working in your own defensive third, and that spamming shoulder challenges now slows your defender down.
Confirmed gameplay changes
| System | What changed |
|---|---|
| Corners | Dynamic corners added |
| Attack | Enhanced attacking spatial awareness and more active runs |
| Defending | Player-focused defending, built for competitive play |
| Movement | More fluid, closer to real player motion |
| Manual defending | More weight given to the player’s own input |
| PlayStyles | Rebalanced to emphasise attributes over trait stacking |
| Dribbling | Off-balance dribbling for agile players |
| CPU | Smarter AI behaviour |
| Physicality | More realistic physical interactions |
| Presentation | Improved environmental effects |
| Match settings | Expanded gameplay sliders |
EA also lowered the maximum number of PlayStyles+ from five to three. The stated goal is to keep player items in your squad for longer and make attributes matter again.
Changes added after the closed beta
EA published these on 3 September 2026, after collecting feedback from beta forums, the player feedback portal and Discord.
| Item | Change |
|---|---|
| Shoulder challenge | Most effective side by side, weaker from behind |
| Repeated input | Spamming it makes the defender stick out an arm and slow down |
| Bruiser+ | Extra benefit reduced slightly |
| Team Press | No effect while the ball is in your defensive third |
| High Team Press | Defenders press less effectively than midfielders and forwards |
| Defensive depth | Low settings now pull the line back sooner |
| AcceleRATE | Gaps between the three profiles narrowed, attributes weigh more |
| Triggered runs | Limited distance, must be re-triggered |
| Female Lengthy profile | Height requirement is 172 cm |
| Player Lock | Ball carrier keeps moving straight instead of auto-avoiding defenders |
| Player Lock passing | CPU pass error increased slightly |
Four habits to change from FC 26
First, stop spamming the shoulder challenge. Repeated presses now make your defender stick an arm out and lose speed, which makes chasing harder. Get into position, go side by side, then press.
Second, trust the depth setting again. A low defensive depth used to leave the line sitting higher than expected. It now behaves as written, with defenders retreating earlier and less space behind.
Third, trigger curved runs yourself. Triggered runs now have a distance limit and stop after a set distance, so long runs need manual re-triggering.
Fourth, treat Player Lock as a trade-off. Once you lock onto an off-ball player, the carrier keeps moving in the same direction instead of dribbling around defenders. Check the carrier’s position before you use it.
The early verdict is split
Feedback during early access divides sharply.
The positive side says manual defending finally rewards input. One Reddit player wrote that it feels “far more manual”, which is what they wanted. GamingBolt’s review video also calls the direction correct.
The negative side points at specific problems: the ball feeling light, passes occasionally redirecting to the wrong player, slower menus, commentary cutting out mid-match, and mid-match crashes. Several players concluded that it is worth waiting for patches.
Vapex Karma’s video asks directly whether FC 27 gameplay is actually better, while Machete Gaming’s title is “I expected more, EA”. They reach opposite conclusions.
All of this is player and media opinion. EA has not responded to individual complaints.
How to tell a complaint from a real change
Community discussion mixes two different things: intentional design changes and early-access bugs.
The way to separate them is simple:
- Search the official pitch notes for the system in question
- If EA describes the change, it is intentional
- If it only appears under bug fixes, it is a problem rather than a design
- If neither mentions it, wait for the next official update
One more caveat: early-access footage is not the release build. Title Updates decide which issues survive.
EA has already said it will not make major balance changes early. So do not expect a fast response to subjective feel complaints.
