EA SPORTS FC 27 Closed Beta: Dates, Access and What Changed
The FC 27 closed beta ran from 5 to 25 August 2026 for invited players in four countries only. EA published its changes on 3 September.

The EA SPORTS FC 27 closed beta ran from 5 August 2026 at 17:00 UTC to 25 August 2026 at 17:00 UTC. It has finished.
It was invite-only, not an open test. EA states that signing up for EA Playtesting or opting into EA marketing emails only gives you a chance at selection. It does not guarantee access.
Closed beta progress did not carry over to the full game.

Invitation emails stated which modes each tester could enter. EA says every invited player could access The Grounds where the platform supported it, and that other modes were limited.
How beta codes worked
Codes were sent to the email address linked to the EA account. If no email arrived, the account was not selected.
EA states its support advisers cannot send codes or check whether you will be invited. Codes were personal and could not be transferred or shared with another player.
The beta also banned posting, streaming or recording gameplay. Breaking that rule removed access and put the account on a no-access list for future tests.
What EA changed because of the beta
On 3 September 2026 EA published a closed beta feedback update with a specific change list.
Physical play and shoulder challenges
- Shoulder challenges are most effective side by side, not from behind
- Repeatedly pressing the challenge input makes the defender stick out an arm and lose speed
- The extra benefit from Bruiser+ was reduced slightly
Team Press and defensive depth
- Team Press has no effect while the ball is in your defensive third
- Used higher up the pitch, defenders press less effectively than midfielders and forwards
- Lower defensive depth settings now pull the line back sooner
AcceleRATE
- The gap between Explosive, Controlled and Lengthy was narrowed
- Acceleration and sprint speed attributes now carry more weight
- Triggered runs have a limited distance and must be re-triggered
- Female players need to be at least 172 cm tall for the Lengthy profile
Player Lock
- The ball carrier no longer automatically dribbles around defenders and keeps moving in the same direction
- CPU pass error while locked increased slightly
EA also said it does not plan significant gameplay balance changes in early Title Updates.
Why EA changed its early update plan
EA’s stated reason is that the first weeks of a football game move fast. Players learn new mechanics, find new ways to play and build squads quickly.
Reacting to those first-week trends with big balance changes would cut that learning period short. So EA chose to let the game settle and only fix bugs or behaviour that clearly hurts the experience. Where a fix is needed, EA says it will keep it targeted.
What to do instead now that the beta has ended
The beta will not reopen. Three working routes remain:
- Ultimate Edition or Ultimate Plus Edition: from 18 September
- EA Play Pro: full game from 17 September at 23:00 UTC
- EA Play trial: 18 September at 04:00 UTC, 10 hours
Timings are on the release timetable and EA Play and Game Pass page.
How to read leaked beta footage
A lot of beta gameplay footage appeared during and after the test. Those clips broke EA’s beta rules, and the values in them were not final.
To check whether a complaint was actually addressed, compare it against EA’s 3 September change list and then test the release build. The full list of gameplay changes is on the gameplay changes page.
